Christmas waste collection services and household recycling centre opening hours

Bins

Residents have been urged to check the amended waste collection timetable and household recycling centre opening times for the Christmas and New Year period.

There will be no collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day (25 and 26 December and 1 January).

Garden waste collections will be suspended from Friday 25 December and restart on Saturday 9 January.

You can check your revised waste and recycling collection dates and print off your waste calendar at: www.wiltshire.gov.uk/waste

Toby Sturgis, cabinet member for waste management said: “It’s a good idea for residents to familiarise themselves with the arrangements for waste collection and the opening times for household recycling centres over the festive period. We all know we can tend to have more waste over Christmas, but it’s worth noting how much of this can be recycled.”

If you have paid to have your garden waste collected at home you can leave your real Christmas tree alongside your garden waste bin for collection between 9 and 31 January only. Alternatively they can be recycled at any of Wiltshire’s 11 household recycling centres.

Don’t forget to recycle the following items this Christmas:

In your blue lidded recycling bin – Christmas cards, cardboard tubes, wrapping paper (not foil/plastic paper)

In your black box – biscuit tins, clean foil, including cake cases and foil trays for the turkey, Christmas card envelopes.

Excess food waste can contribute much of the additional waste generated over the Christmas season. Take a look at the Love Food, Hate Waste website for some useful tips for avoiding this: www.lovefoodhatewaste.com

Household recycling centre opening hours

All household recycling centres will be closed from 1pm on Christmas Eve, and all day Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. At all other times the centres are open during their revised normal opening hours, 10am-4pm, five days a week.

Please check when your local household recycling centre is open before travelling. You can check the opening times at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/waste or on 0300 456 0102.

Please note that all household recycling centres are likely to be very busy over the Christmas and New Year period.  Remember you can put out extra black box recycling by your box in separate plastic bags. Second black boxes and blue lidded bins are available to any resident free of charge. They can be ordered online at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/waste or by phoning 0300 456 0102.
